Hyrox Aus Qualifying Slots Released

Watch out Hyrox - Australia is coming!

More than 200 athletes competing at a Hyrox Australia event this year will qualify for the 2024-2025 World Championships.

Hyrox has released the qualifying slots for the recent events held in Australian capital cities, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as the allocation for the upcoming Hyrox Brisbane event. A total of 172 slots have been allocated for all three events, which means up to 211 athletes will qualify across both singles and doubles races.

Here’s a snapshot of the qualifying slots allocated for the 2024 Hyrox Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane events.

So how does one qualify and why do the allocated slots differ between events?

Put simply - athletes who place in the top spots within their age group category have a chance of qualifying for the Hyrox World Championships. The key words here are ‘have a chance’ as the number of qualifying spots available will differ at each race dependant on the total number of participants at the event. Approximately the top 2% of athletes across the globe competed at the World Championships last season. This season, Hyrox is aiming for roughly the top 1% - which means the qualification process is becoming more difficult and competitive across the field.

Take the recent Hyrox Australia events as an example - the Melbourne event had a total of 6692 athletes and 75 World Championship slots have been allocated. Divide 6692 by 75 and this gives you approximately 1.12%. Compare this to the Sydney event where there were 5106 athletes and 61 allocated slots, and you end up with around 1.19%. Therefore, both events are taking roughly the top 1% of athletes from the day to the 2024-2025 Championships

Now, if an athlete qualifies in the same age group and category but at another race, their qualification place is reassigned using the roll-down system. The roll-down system is also used if an athlete does not confirm their spot or if they decline all together. This gives the next best athlete the chance to compete at the World Championships.

The Hyrox qualification process has changed over the years and we are likely to see plenty of more changes as the sport continues to grow. The competition pool will only get harder as more athletes compete and more events are held across the globe. One thing we do know is with Hyrox Perth still to come, we are likely to see closer to 300 athletes from the APAC region competing at the 2024-2025 Hyrox World Championships…and don’t we love to see it!
