Hyrox Melbourne Recap
New race divisions and a world record - that pretty much sums up the first Hyrox event for this season!
The Hyrox 2024-2025 season kicked off at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 29 & 30 June 2024. More than 6,000 competitors took part in the two day event - more than double the amount of competitors than the previous year’s event in Melbourne. The event included additional race divisions in the doubles categories, with pro doubles being added since last year.
Let’s take a look at some competitor stats!
Hyrox Melbourne Finished Competitors
The above graph shows the increase in competitors for each race division between 2023 and 2024, noting that the doubles events included the pro categories this year. Each race division appeared to at least double in size - an incredible result for hybrid sport Down Under. The Womens Open Doubles was incredibly popular, with close to 1,800 athletes competing in this race division compared to only 548 in 2023.
There were some brilliant results in each race, including three athletes breaking the one hour time in the mens single events (two in the Pro and one in the Open division.) Particularly noteworthy was the world record broken by Joanna Wietrzyk in the Womens Open division. Joanna finished in a time of 1 hour and 30 seconds, breaking the world record for her age category (16-24). Joanna’s time was only 62 seconds behind the overall world record for the WOmen’s Open - an amazing result on Australian soil!
